I Dont normally post about things like news and announcements as such. But this just takes the cake.
I've been thinking of importing Demon's souls for just over half a year. But thats aside the point...
Just to review. In America it was published by ATLUS. In Japan it was published my Sony Computer Entertainment. And in Europe it's getting published by Namco-Bandai...
By now anyone in the gaming "scene" has heard of Demon's souls and how it's soul suckingly hard, brutal, and yet. Rewarding. After the game sold well in Japan it was brought to Sony computer Emtertainment in America, they passed up on the offer of publishing Demon's souls over in America. So Atlus took the helm... And the game became a sleeper hit with the western audiences... If I am right it sold around 280000 Copies in America, with an expected 75000 sales... Sony Computer Entertainment later said that it was a "mistake" not bringing Demon's souls to America. So what I REALLY dont get is why on earth Namco-Bandai are localising this for the European folks. SCE has a solid new IP with this game from what I have heard. So why did they pass up on the oppurtunity to publish this in Europe? Lord knows.
To be fair I think that a game that has been out in Japan for over a year is coming to Europe JUST NOW?
It's similar to the whole Blazblue thing (took 9 months from US release to come over here). People wonder why they will not do well over here is that they just took too damn long to publish the game in that territory... hence all the hype around the game is gone and most of the community is gone.
But more importantly. It's headed to Europe!
I have already placed my preorder as soon as I saw the listing on Shopto. My expectations for this are extremely high. I hope From Software does not dissappoint with this.
Moreover, it's not just the single game. We are getting a Special edition similar to what the American Territories got. This time dubbed "Black Phantom edition" With a Red instead of Blue flame on the box art.
The release date on this baby is June 25th, more deatails later on today when Bamco is doing an "official" press release. So I will update anything if it's wrong.
I would cite my sources on this article but I'm too lazy. most of this is either from Kotaku, Destructoid or NeoGAF. So props to them.
